Merit for MBBS and BDS admission is decided on an aggregate, not on your MDCAT score alone. In recent admission cycles the weighting has been:
Aggregate = 10% Matric + 40% FSc + 50% MDCAT

A worked example
Matric 1,050/1,200, FSc 1,000/1,200 and MDCAT 160/180:
- Matric: 1050 ÷ 1200 × 10 = 8.7500
- FSc: 1000 ÷ 1200 × 40 = 33.3333
- MDCAT: 160 ÷ 180 × 50 = 44.4444
- Aggregate = 86.5278%
Every MDCAT mark is worth 50 ÷ 180 ≈ 0.278 aggregate points, and every FSc mark out of 1,200 is worth 0.033. That is why a couple of MCQs can move you past hundreds of candidates on the merit list.
